core responsibilities
As a Legal Counsel based in Shanghai, and reporting to Senior Legal Counsel, China Mainland, you will play a key role in providing legal support to the Brand and Marketing team, PR team, Social Impact team, Product and Product Integrity teams, Localization team and Strategy team, ensuring advertising compliance, managing PR-related legal matters, supporting the products compliance, and offering legal consultations for the overall retail business.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Provide legal advice and review for brand and marketing campaigns, including online and offline advertising, CRM, mini-programs, and consumer data science initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with local laws and regulations in all marketing materials, including bulletins, posters, slogans, and promotional activities. Monitor and address potential legal risks in advertising campaigns, including claims, endorsements, and influencer partnerships.
• Provide legal advice on PR strategies, crisis management, and media communications to mitigate risks and protect the brand’s reputation. Work closely with the PR team to monitor social media coverage and exposure for potential controversies that could lead to brand damage or legal issues.
• Collaborate with the Brand and Marketing team to develop legally compliant strategies for marketing activities launches, campaigns, and customer engagement initiatives.
• Offer legal guidance on product development, labeling, packaging, and compliance with local product safety and quality regulations.
• Review and negotiate contracts with third-party vendors related to the above business. Ensure that contracts align with company policies, legal requirements, and business objectives. Provide legal advice on contract interpretation, risk assessment, and dispute resolution.
• Provide general legal advice and support to various business teams, including the Social Impact team, Localization team, and Strategy team, on a wide range of legal matters.
• Address legal issues and all the potential risk issues in the local market for new and existing products.
• Provide legal support for retail operations, including compliance with local retail regulations, assist in resolving legal issues related to customer complaints, returns, and warranties.
• Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations and provide training to the business teams on compliance requirements.
qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or above in law.
• Qualified PRC lawyer.
• 8 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in retail, consumer goods, or advertising industries.
• Strong knowledge of Chinese laws and regulations related to advertising, consumer protection, product safety, and retail operations.
