A day in the life
Based in the China Store Support Centre in Shanghai, and reporting to China Senior Legal Counsel or Legal Counsel assigned, you will play a critical dual-role across legal ops and frontline legal support to Retail Ops/stores.
core responsibilities
- Legal Support to Retail Ops and Brick-and-Mortar Stores
- Act as Legal contact with Retail Ops and stores to:
- Review and monitor a variety of retail-related contracts, maintain legal templates, SOPs, checklists, and guidance.
- Respond to day-to-day legal enquiries from Retail Ops and Stores.
- Advise on guest complaints and disputes arising from daily store operations.
- Develop and deliver practical, business-oriented legal training and guidance to Retail Ops and store teams.
- Represent Legal in Retail-related cross-functional projects and group discussion.
- Corporate & License Governance
- Independently lead licensing processes for New Store Openings (NSO), store optimization projects, and corporate updates (e.g., WFOE changes), including business licenses, hygiene permits, and other required certifications.
- Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders, landlords, and external agencies to ensure timely and compliant license completion.
- Represent legal as the license owner in cross-functional O&O meeting, ensuring alignment and timely execution.
- Create new entity/branch/E-stamps into systems promptly, complete required actions in systems.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and audit-ready records of all corporate licenses and filings.
- Budget, Payment & Vendor Management
- Manage the legal team’s budget tracking, accruals, and forecasting in alignment with AOP planning and cadence.
- Oversee invoices, billing, payments, and reimbursement processes of legal team, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Manage and liaise with external vendors of legal team, help with engagement execution, projects coordination and service management.
- Team Engagement & Global Collaboration
- Serve as the key liaison between China Legal and Global/APAC Legal Ops teams.
- Lead and localize global legal ops initiatives in China, including legal team ojectives/ legal stratgies and digital transformation projects.
- Design and host team engagement or program for China Legal Team, from perspectives either culture, learning, personal development or team-work efficiency.
- Actively explore legal AI tools that can help improve the efficiency of legal team, freeing up team members from routine tasks and allowing them to focus on more valuable and strategic legal work.
- Other Legal Ops works;
- Maintain legal systems and platforms (e.g. China Legal Hub, BestSign, Store Portfolio TA data/ documents management platform, etc.), ensuring data accuracy, proper documentation management, and timely updates.
- Be responsible for contract filing of hardcopies and monitor execution of contract filing policy.
- Collaborate closely with legal ops team members on system maintenance, providing mutual backup and support as needed.
- Any ad-hoc tasks assigned by China Legal team from time to time.
qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in law.
- 3-5 years work experience, experience with retail industry is a plus.
- Fluent English and Mandarin written and oral skills required.
- Excellent skill in PPT, excel or technicial background would be a plus.
